Evolution Cycling Club was founded in 2000 as an
amateur bicycle racing club, dedicated to the promotion
of bicycle racing and the development of amateur
bike racers. The club is a
non-profit organization governed by volunteer members,
and is a member of
USA Cycling, the
Mid-Atlantic Bicycle Racing Association
(MABRA) and the
Virginia Cycling Association (VCA).
This Sunday’s ride (3/23) is the last of the winter club rides. Kudos to all those that lead the rides over these past several months! This last ride will depart from the Starbucks in RTC at 9 AM, and head east into town (DC) and will be a zone 2/3 effort.
Contact Victor Siegfried for additional information about the ride.

Behind-the-scenes planning for our newly renamed winter training series continues, and with the recent MABRA approval we can now publicly advertise the details of the event.
Just a month before the 2008 racing season begins!

We're happy to announce that Fairfax County has approved our request to hold our winter training series, the Cold Toes Race Series, in Chantilly this year! The stickler has been that neither of the two roads for the course have had their governance transfered over to VDOT yet, which has significantly slowed the approval process for us. Now that we've been given the green light for the use of the roads, we'll proceed at full speed with all of the other paperwork and planning that a first-rate race requires. Keep an eye on this site for further news updates!
And don't worry, the west leg of the course really does connect to the east leg of the course :-)

The web site just grew by a section! What's better to do during the off-season than gain a bit of extra content around the middle? Introducing the new Rides section, a collection of Gmaps Pedometer routes which provide a wide-range of rides to choose from. If you make your way through all of these rides, create your own and send it on in. The more the merrier! Each ride description includes the starting location and distance. Clicking on the associated map shows you the actual route details. Here's a sample ride description.
Start location: Reston Town Center (Reston, VA)
Distance: 64 miles

Back by popular demand, Victor Siegfried has reinstated the Tues/Thur night rides, which will start up again on Thursday, Nov 1st. So charge up your lights and join in.
Ride start is 6:00 PM sharp from the downtown Herndon parking lot. This is an easy zone 2 ride on the W & OD trail out and back to Leesburg (~2hrs).
The ride is canceled if it's raining, has rained up to 1 hour before the ride start, if there is snow or ice on the ground, or if the temp is below 35 degrees at the start of the ride. If you're uncertain if the ride is on, call Vic on his cell phone.
The rider count is usually about 8-10, so you can join even if you don't have a light, but providing your own front and rear lights is preferred!
At our recent monthly meeting, Monday October 29, 2007, we voted for the various officers/board positions of the club. Congratulations to the winners, listed below, and good luck in the coming year.

Unless you're a fan of the never-ending animated GIF, we think you'll find the new site design a bit easier on the eyes. Coupled with some fresh new content, we hope you'll come back for another visit, or at least lay-in-wait using our new RSS feed.

There sure was a lot of the red and blue to see crossing the finish line out in front this year! Here's a list of how our club members faired at the MABRA and Virginia State championship events.
Bubu has been leading some low-key mountain bike rides of late. Why not come out and join the gang to help polish your bike handling skills and have a bit of fun at the same time? Keep an eye on the club mailing list for details of when and where.
Long live the Quicksilver Winter Solstice Series! In the hope of preventing the venerable Quicksilver course from becoming overused and stale, we've decided to move the location of our winter training series to the other side of the Dulles airport, to Chantilly. Along with the move, of course, will come a new name. So without further adieu, Evolution Cycling would like to introduce the Syn-Fit Cold Toes Race Series. We've already submitted the necessary VDOT paperwork to reserve the venue, and if all goes as smoothly as planned, we'll be back next year to help kick off the new racing season. Keep an eye on this site for further news updates!
Evolution Cycling, along with our comrades at the Racing Union, have started handing out small, bicycle safety lights to the day laborers traveling on the W&OD, and elsewhere, after dusk to help improve their safety, and those they encounter during their commutes. In addition to the free light, a pamphlet is included describing when and how to use it, in both English and Spanish. And to top if off, free installation is included as well, right there on the spot. Now that's full service!
