Evolution Cycling Club was founded in 2000 as an
amateur bicycle racing club, dedicated to the promotion
of bicycle racing and the development of amateur
bike racers. The club is a
non-profit organization governed by volunteer members,
and is a member of
USA Cycling, the
Mid-Atlantic Bicycle Racing Association
(MABRA) and the
Virginia Cycling Association (VCA).
Evo welcomes sponsors Long & Foster, along with their partners Prosperity Mortgage, RGS Title & Sage Title Group.
The club newsletter has gone on a diet. Introducing the new club newsflash. Get the latest edition now.
A big thanks to all of the shutterbugs out there on the intertubes, here are a couple of collages featuring Evo club members from both the recent road (21 MB) and cyclo-cross (16 MB) seasons. As indicated, both images are quite large, so don't forget to turn up your ISP bandwidth to 11 before you view them!
The 2009 racing season is winding down fast, so we've gone ahead and crunched the numbers to see how our club members did in the local MABRA and Virginia Cycling championship events. In a word, awesome, with an accumulated total of 29 medals from all events!
So a toast to all of the medal winners, but not too much of one, as we expect great things from y'all next year as well!

Not to rest on our laurels during the winter, the club hosts 5 different training rides each week:
Starting at 6:00 PM in the municipal parking lot opposite the caboose in downtown Herndon, Victor Siegfried will take the group west on the trail and into the darkness out to Leesburg. Rides last around 2 hours. Open to all those brave enough to ride in the spooky dark!
Your Team Captain or designated ride leader will advertise your weekly CAT 2/3, CAT 4/5, or Womens Team Ride. Many of the routes appear on our Rides page.
Starting at 9 AM at The Bike Lane in the Reston Town Center, and will be led by various Evo riders. Let Victor Siegfried know if you are interested in leading one of the Sunday rides throughout the winter. Details of the ride will be posted prior to the weekend. This ride is open to all Evo riders and riders interested in joining Evo and will be advertised at The Bike Lane.
Evo wins 3 gold medals at the MABRA Time Trial Championships. Congratulations to Emma Swatman who won the Women’s Cat 4 race, Ryan Simpson who won the Men's Cat 3 race, and Mike Bradbury who won the Masters 45+ race.
Congratulations to Ted Michaels and Victor Siegfried for their season-long efforts to win their respective categories in the VA Omnium Championships. Ted won the 30+ category (for the second year in a row), placing 2nd in both the hillclimb and time trial events, plus 7th in the crit. Vic won the 50+ category, winning both the road race and crit events along the way.
Congratulations to them both, and we can't wait to see them in their new championship jerseys in next year's races.
Ryan snags the MABRA Cat 3 Criterium championship as he continues his rapid ascent through the ranks, adding to his stash of upgrade points to the inevitable conclusion of a forced upgrade to Cat 2 before the season ends.
Congratulations Ryan, and don't forget to save some for next year, so you can continue beating up on the seniors!
Protecting the product of your mind.

Evo scores another Virginia State championship, this time by the hand of George Opria, who won the Virginia State Masters 40-44 Hill Climb Championship at this year's Wintergreen Ascent event.
George is the captain of the new Evolution Sponsored Team, which has collected considerable attention so far this season. Keep those results coming George!
In Vic's first foray into the brave new world of Masters 50+ racing, he snatches the Virginia State 50+ Road Race Championship at this year's Jefferson Cup event!
Congratulations Vic, and we can't wait to see what you do for an encore!
Online registration for the event opens on Wed, March 18, at 9 PM on BikeReg.
Randy Root headed out to Kansas City to enjoy the arctic cold at the US National Cyclo-cross Championships and placed 8th in the Masters 50-54 race.
Ted Michaels didn't have to travel quite so far, and probably enjoyed better weather as well, and placed 2nd in the year-long MABRA BAR in the Masters 30+ category.
Congrats to you both on your most excellent results!
